Join Jersey City Museum on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 1 p.m. for the special matinee screening of Andres Serrano, the 2007 documentary by filmmaker Adam Kahan. This film explores Andres Serrano and his work, from his formative years in New York to his recent retrospective in Avignon, France, in 2007. The film’s running time is 27 minutes. Directly following the screening in the museum’s theater, artist Andres Serrano and Adam Kahan will make a special appearance to discuss the film.
Andres Serrano became both famous and infamous overnight with his controversial photograph “Piss Christ” which drew attacks from Congress and the Christian Right in the late eighties. His work continues to elicit extreme reactions. Almost twenty years later, vandals attacked his latest show in Sweden with pick axes.
Andres Serrano's photograph, Otoe Missouria Chief, is currently on view in the museum's fall 2009 exhibition, New Look, Same Great Taste! For more information about Andres Serrano, please visit the artist's website at http://andresserrano.org.
Brooklyn-based Producer/Director Adam Kahan is largely self-taught and has served as Director, Producer, Director of Photography, Editor, Artist and Writer on projects ranging from hand processed experimental film to national television series.
