In the past, authors have not been very assessable unless you happen to find them at a book signing event. With the dawn of computers and Print-On-Demand Publishing, everything has changed for authors, publishers and book readers.
Now you the reader can visit an Author’s Page or Website and learn so much more about the author and their books. Now you can email and even call most authors, as we want to communicate with our readers.
In the days of Traditional Publishing Author’s were paid upfront before the book was even finished. Today, with Print-On-Demand authors are paid only after they write the book, publish the book (themselves)
Here is the catch twenty two for authors today. When authors go through a POD Publisher they purchase a distribution package that puts their book (s) into all the online book retailers. This creates a middle man (sometimes two) who of course needs a piece of the book retail price pie. So many POD authors are not putting their books at the suggested high retail prices. We are putting our retail prices at a low, bare bones retail price in order to help our readers in these economically challenging times. In doing this the author get about 10% of the retail price that you pay for the book.
If you (the reader) find a book that you want to buy, please keep in mind that if you buy directly from the author you get many rewards. First, you are able to purchase an autographed copy. Second, you have the chance to email or even talk directly to the author. Third, when you pay the retail price it cuts out the middle man and you are giving the author a fair royalty for the book that took hundreds of hours to create, publish, market and promote.
