AmeriCymru, the Welsh social network, and the Meriwether Lewis Memorial Eisteddfod Foundation began the 2010 Left Coast Eisteddfod with its on-line image and photography competition. "We're honored to have last year's contest judge, photographer Glyn Davies of Wales, back with us this year," said organizer Ceri Shaw, "Glyn is an incredible artist and he's already taken the reins and made this year's competition something completely new for us."
The Left Coast Eisteddfod is a modern take on an old Welsh tradition: a performing arts competition which has taken place in Wales since the 1100's. The Left Coast Eisteddfod includes on-line image, poetry and short story contests with cash prizes on the AmeriCymru social network (which takes its name from the words "American" and "Cymru", the Welsh word for the Welsh) and a live event which will be in Portland, Oregon in the USA in October, 2010.
The image competition is open to anyone, anywhere, and images can be submitted on the competition page at http://americymru.ning.com/
Rules for submission are on the page and two categories of images can be submitted:
* A Photographic Image - either from film or digital cameras which generally represents the subject without adding or subtracting elements.
* A Photographic Illustration - this is any image which has been substantially adjusted and manipulated by whatever means, digital or analogue, and which is generally non representational of a real person/place/
In defining the 2010 image contest, Glyn Davies ( http://www.glyndavies.com/
"Really consider what it is that makes YOUR land or culture special, let us all celebrate it with you."
