Triangle Town Centennial Gala Event Selects Chef Greg Lewis of Catering-by-Design as Dinner Caterer

PR Log (Press Release) – Nov 06, 2009 – Raleigh, North Carolina. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Fuquay Varina, one of several historic towns in the greater metropolitan Raleigh area, planned a historic Centennial Gala, black-tie optional, with fine dining and dancing.

The Fuquay-Varina Junior Woman’s Club reviewed six different caterers, with taste tests, and selected Cary’s Catering-by-Design to cater the Gala dinner. Originally anticipating 500 guests, the final count was over 680 people for dinner.

"We were excited to have been part of this historic event;  it’s not every day that one gets to be part of a Centennial Celebration,” said Chef Greg Lewis. “It was challenging to work around the lack of running water, but we are proud about how it all came out. Now  we can add catering an event in an abandoned warehouse without water to our experience.”

The location for the event was an old warehouse that needed significant work to ready for the elegant event. The space, while offered for free, presented numerous challenges and opportunities for problem-solving and community collaboration as  documented in a Fuquay Varina Independent news article by Shirley Hayes.

The Gala Committee selected a menu that included a rich assortment of Hors d'Oeuvres; a fresh salad of baby greens, pine nut, goat cheese and strawberries with citrus and champagne vinaigrette; a dual entree of Grilled Filet Mignon with Port Wine Demi-Gloss and Pan-Seared Breast of Chicken with tomato caper chutney; and green beans and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. The Cary-based catering service accommodated special requests from those with dietary restrictions and vegetarians. Dessert for the evening was birthday cake provided by Cinda's Cakes.
