FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Nov 06, 2009 – Sydney, a city of dreams to many, grew its settlement at the Sydney Cove and later became known simply as “Sydney” the heart throb of Australia. This city is so full of life, party, music, fun and beauty that its very existence is a celebration in itself. Australian’s are known to find a reason for spreading happiness and where there is no reason….they invent one! One such most happening celebration, that is estimated to attract 1 million people annually every year, is the “Sydney Festival”. The nation’s largest arts festival is un doubtfully the most happening and exhilarating annual cultural event.

This lively idea was originally conceived in 1977 by the Sydney Committee, the NSW State Government and the City of Sydney. Aimed at attracting people into the city centre to enchant and celebrate the holiday month of January, this festival is serving the purpose since than and will continue to color the life of Sydney every year. Since the first ever Sydney Festival, this electrifying convention has grown to become the largest annual cultural celebration in Australia. Not just in Australia, but through out the world people anticipate this modern, popular and intelligent programming where Sydney celebrates its existence with the rest of the world. The style, energy, confidence, diversity, vigor and enthusiasm sparkles every nook and corner of this city for rest of year in memories if all young and old.

This enlivening festival hits Sydney and remains in all joy and glory for three memorable weeks offering a rich program of around 80 events with 500 outstanding artists from Australia and abroad glistening their skills in dance, theatre, music, visual arts, cross media and forums. The Sydney Festival rocks all the main Theaters across the city including Sydney Theater, Carriage Works, City Recital Hall and the venues at the Sydney Opera. The free outdoor events included in this festival are the long-running Festival in the Domain with Jazz and Symphony concerts, each attracting up to 100 000 people. In 2008, Festival First Night was introduced as the Festival’s new opening event, which sets the city streets transformed into a series of free stages and precincts. It was estimated that over 300,000 people enjoyed Festival First Night in January this year.

In 2010, Lindy Hume will have her debut as Festival Director and Chief Executive of Sydney Festival 2010. One of this year's highlights includes Rogues Gallery, a one-night-only concert of pirate ballads and sea shanties conceived by hot celebrity, Johnny Depp and performed by Marianne Faithfull, Tim Robbins, Baby Gramps, Sarah Blasko and David Johansen. Lindy Hume said at one occasion: ''Some are ribald, others are haunting and tragic - especially the ones about long sea journeys and people being wrenched from their homelands and brought to the hellhole of Australia,'' further, ''Having the concert at forecourt of the Opera House brings historical resonances, and the quality of the contemporary musicians and artists makes it all the more remarkable. I will probably get around to producing an opera but I'm more interested in juxtapositions of music and text.''

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for what promises to be the biggest Sydney Festival since 1799 with music, theatre, dance, circus, exhibitions, forums and free events prepared to startle the spectators and last in the memories until its that time of the year again!
