Nicholas Wright ways: "'What am I doing?' 'Why am I doing it?' 'What am I trying to achieve?' 'What is stopping me?' These are questions every playwright asks when stepping into the characters' shoes, and that every actor tries to find the answer to in rehearsals. Theatre and psychoanalysis have a lot in common, and I look forward to a conversation that might throw some light on the kinship and distinctions between the two."
Helen Taylor Robinson says, "Mrs Klein is a brilliantly crafted drama, utilising biography but deploying the material so deftly that it successfully opens up phantasies for us all about one of the key figures of psychoanalysis, allowing us, analysts and laymen and women to revisit the core issues of psychoanalysis and human relations. It's also about dominance and subjugation, about loss and mourning and its difficulties, but above all it is about boundaries that collapse continually between professional and personal matters, and this writ large on this stage of psychoanalysis - a dramatic place in any case when unconscious forces are privileged over the conscious with dangerous consequences."
Connecting Conversations is a series of events bringing together psychoanalysis and other fields to make connections between individuals, organisations and ideas. It is produced by The Rowan Arts Project in partnership with the Institute of Psychoanalysis, Freud Museum and Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
