2016 Olympics Race Coverage Sets Around the Rings Record

Nov. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Around the Rings’ (ATR) coverage of the race to host the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics in October boosted its website hits and set an Around the Rings record for monthly website traffic, hits, page views, data usage, ad impressions and unique visitors.

On October 2 – the day of the vote at the 121st IOC session in Copenhagen – ATR recorded more than seven times its average daily traffic and more than double the previous record for single day traffic.

Monthly website hits exceeded 3.4 million, surpassing hits during the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the second straight month.  More than 3.1 million hits were recorded during September, also surpassing the Beijing numbers. About 2.9 million hits were recorded during Beijing.

The numbers reflect ATR’s status as the world’s leading source of information about the business of the Olympic Movement.  ATR was the only publication to send its correspondents on multiple visits to each of the four cities bidding for the Games.  Chicago, Madrid, and Tokyo were the other cities bidding for the 2016 Olympics.

“While the race for the 2016 Olympics is decided, three cities are in the running in Guadalajara to host the 2015 Pan Ams - Toronto, Lima and Bogota,” said Hula.

“It's not the same level as the Olympics, but remember Rio de Janeiro used its 2007 Pan Am Games experience to win the 2016 Olympics.”

“Speaking of Rio de Janeiro, the bid leader and Brazilian Olympic Committee President Carlos Nuzman is here to deliver his first international report on Rio 2016 since winning the Games,” said Hula.

Around the Rings will follow the U.S. Olympic Committee contingent at the PASO meeting.  The meeting is the first that Chairman Larry Probst and outgoing CEO Stephanie Streeter will attend.
