Motivated to succeed in a field that few seem to thrive in, Lise has developed a business that involves fine art, technology, peer networking, merchandising and community development.
Lise’s website, www.artforlifestudio.ca, is her main business source, combines a mix of multimedia presentation, complex flash slide shows of her artwork, animated characters, newsletters and video blogs.
After researching the industry for several months, Lise discovered that few artists understand the actual business of art and rely almost completely on agents and galleries. Though she does engage and encourage such relations, Lise has a hands-on approach by ensuring that she is involved in all stages of her business development to ensure its success.
Lise explains, “An artist of any kind must treat their success as any other business. We cannot give up all of our ‘power’ to others and not understand the process of which art is sold. If artists had the opportunity to learn more about the business of art, I believe we would have more successful artists. Yes, it does limit your painting time, but your sales are increased, and in the end, I would rather sell more so I can earn a living at what I love to do.”
Lise has recently designed two other components of her website; the first being the “Trading Post”. The Trading Post is an online E-commerce store that she created to sell prints and merchandise inspired by her art to her clientele.
“I wanted to ensure that my art remains affordable and accessible to the general public. I can do this by providing affordable prints and still sell my originals to the serious art collector”, says Durling.
Besides selling prints, the Trading Post also showcases her art through a variety of merchandise;
The second addition to her website is her design of “J.Hubert Francis’ Official Website”. Hubert Francis is a three-time JUNO Award and one time Aboriginal Music Award Nominee. His music encompasses contemporary rock with Traditional Chants, and sings his songs in both English and Mig’mag. Hubert is an essential member of the Brookes Diamond production, “DRUM”, representing the Mig’mag nation. Hubert’s CD’s can be purchased on the website.
Lise has recently designed a CD cover for Hubert and the two partner in-kind and assist in the promotion and development of each others’ business. Lise is currently completing a series of online electronic cards that combines her artwork with Hubert Francis’ music. A unique product that is affordable, convenient and benefits the environment since all cards are sent by email eliminating the use of paper.
Lise invites people to visit her site often as she will be uploading her new videos for the “Video Blog” starting November 11th.
“These video blogs are a combination of video narration and live painting sessions. People, who subscribe to my website, have the opportunity to win prizes each week”.
Lise believes in supporting local community and the environment to the best of her ability. She has sought to partner with businesses and suppliers who strive to promote good environmental practices.
Lise is known for painting at community events, such as the Truro Farmer’s Market. She continues to work on her mural behind the Esplanade, where she paints a larger-than-
Lise’s specialty is portraiture:
Lise will be promoting her online speaking engagements in December. “Clients can register and participate in an online motivational seminar right on the internet. The seminars are facilitated to motivate participants to use creativity as means to inspire personal and professional growth, and to understand how creativity is an essential tool to promote success. It is an excellent tool for corporations, businesses and anyone who just needs that extra push to motivate them to achieve their short and long term goals”.
