Greenbox: Downstream Accountability Doesn't Exist for eWaste

GreenITStrategy.com interview of Shane Mulholland, Managing Director, Greenbox

Nov. 5, 2009 - PRLog -- GreenITStrategy (www.greenitstrategy.com) today released the latest in a series of green IT podcast interviews. Bianca Wirth, Founder & Editor of GreenITStrategy.com, interviewed Shane Mulholland, Managing Director of Greenbox.

Mulholland answered a number of questions on the state of eWaste in Australia and what businesses can do to implement their own eWaste programs.  When asked about eWaste dumping, he said "There is no doubt that eWaste dumping is a global problem and of course the majority of waste that is being created originated from the west...Unfortunately a lot of the eWaste is being shipped out of Australia illegally. It's very easy to do and the authorities seem quite disinterested in pursuing those that are doing it, which in turn only encourages the activity. So the bottom line is that there is really no way to know for certain that electronic goods that are being exported legally, or illegally, are being managed in an ethical manner. Downstream accountability simply does not exist in this industry in Australia unfortunately."

The entire Greenbox podcast interview can be listened to on the GreenITStrategy website (http://www.greenitstrategy.com/podcasts).
