Amidst Canadian Auditor General Sheila Fraser’s calls for ‘better coordination’
Specifically, CiviGuard has rolled out two solutions, CiviCommand and CiviCast, to better coordinate and integrate information in disaster, pandemic and crisis scenarios.
The idea is that in a crisis situation, any civilian with a smart phone and the CiviCast application will receive reliable, integrated information from the local authorities. For example, in the context of H1N1, citizens might receive information as to where they can find the nearest vaccination clinic, local closures, precautions etc. Another application, CiviCommand, allows the appropriate authorities to input their information into a central system so that incident command has an evolving idea of what the ground situation looks like. In the H1N1 scenario, local medical personnel & public health offices would be able to easily track the incidence of H1N1 occurrences, outbreaks and the evolution of new strains.
To date, CiviGuard’s efforts have received praise and support from key individuals in the US, including New York City Fire Department’s Chief Medical Officer and the head of NASA’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, both of whom have praised the company’s technologies for their ability to better integrate information in a disaster scenario, and potentially save lives as a result.
“Given the positive response we've had from the disaster management and emergency response teams we've surveyed, it has become clear that our applications have the ability to coordinate and integrate information in times of crisis, and we wish to work with the authorities to create reliable channels to help manage information in the current H1N1 crisis,” said CiviGuard co-founder Shawna Pandya. “We are an organization committed to aiding civilian populations in times of crisis through authoritative & reliable information delivery over mobile communications networks."
