New Business Models for the New Net

Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

ICC Auditorium, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service
37th & O Sts. N.W., Washington, DC

One-to-one communication – email – dominated the early Internet. Web technology issued in a new Net era of one-to-many communication, where a single Web server could broadcast information to millions.   Now as the next-generation or “New” Net unfolds, users around the world are tapping into many sources and platforms – social media, vast databases, cloud computing, intricate mobile devices, storage systems, Web 2.0 – to collaborate many-to-many, creating entirely new Net-based entities.

But can you make money that way?

Join us for an informal, lively conversation on the new business models arising on the next-generation Net and whether these models will finally begin to generate the revenue so many Net investors have predicted for so long.

Leading the discussion:

- Kurt Baumann, CEO, 3Sixty Enterprises, www.3SixtyWeb.com, and former Angel/Venture

- Mark Potts, CEO and co-founder, Growthspur, www.growthspur.com

- David Johnson, Senior Resident Fellow and expert on the law of electronic commerce, Center for Democracy and Technology, www.cdt.org

- Wesley Kaplow, VP, Network Solutions and CTO, Polar Star Consulting, www.polarstarconsulting.com

Graeme Browning, author of Electronic Democracy: Using the Internet to Transform American Politics, and ISOC-DC Governing Council member, will moderate.

Event hosted by the Communication, Culture and Technology Program, Georgetown University, http://cct.georgetown.edu/.

Directions:  Driving directions to Georgetown University are available at http://maps.georgetown.edu/index.cfm?Action=Region.

The ICC Auditorium is #26 on the Georgetown University campus map at http://maps.georgetown.edu/index.cfm?Action=View&MapID=2 and the best parking garage is located near Building #38 on that map. Parking is $3/hour.

Please RSVP by email to chapter@isoc-dc.org or phone to 202-596-9329.  Open to the public, no charge.
