WATC now joins a highly select and very small group of training providers that have demonstrated the ability to provide aviation training that encompasses a wide array of Knowledge and Skill Standards and Certifications as set forth by the National Center for Aircraft Technician Training (NCATT). In fact, WATC is one of thirteen institutions that have received accredited status from NCATT. NCATT presented two WATC Avionics instructors, Don Thomas and Billy McDaniel, with the NCATT accreditation plaque at its regional meeting in Kansas City, MO on September 30th.
Aerospace industry professionals, from many manufacturers and service companies throughout the country, established the NCATT initiative in 1999 that requires a particular set of industry standards be met by the aerospace industry. These knowledge and skill based standards also promote integrity, safety, and professionalism in the aerospace industry.
WATC recognized the necessity of instituting the required knowledge and skill based standards and began pursuing accreditation status for its Avionics program in spring 2009. Training for the Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) Certification is currently being offered by WATC as part of the avionics program and is working with NCATT to offer many other types of certifications recognized by the aerospace industry.
“Working with and in the aerospace industry for over 25 years it became apparent some years ago that the aerospace industry and industry training providers needed a set of standards,” said Billy McDaniel, Avionics instructor. “I take comfort in knowing that we now have a vehicle to provide just that. At WATC we not only are providing the required knowledge and skill based standards, we also are implementing the tools that will allow our efforts to be measurable and scalable. By consistently measuring and documenting our efforts for improvement we attain to be the very best provider in aerospace training.”
