“Motion and Stillness” is Mandi Kingsbury’s portrayal of the disease of Multiple Sclerosis. The ProtestMS creative movement was conceived following her success at the 2007 World of Wearable Art Awards in New Zealand. Protest MS has become an international initiative to inspire individuals to protest the negative effects of Multiple Sclerosis and other chronic conditions through quirky creativity and social activity.
“My career has had many high points, one of them being awarded the World of Wearable Art Supreme Award in 1994”, explains Mandi. “I’m an incurable optimist and was confident I could win this award again with my entry “Motion and Stillness” in 2007. This sculpture is my abstract interpretation of the physiological facts of MS set within an emotional human art context.” “It was my hope that “Motion and Stillness” - would begin a public dialogue to create awareness of this disease and to inspire individuals living with the disease” concludes Kingsbury.
