28 year old Chris Scott, from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire was egged on by workmates and encouraged to make his rather apt name change official.
The now aptly named, Guy Fawkes, who works in sales and has always loved bonfire night, said, “We started a conversation at work about crazy name changes and we got talking about how funny it would be to change our own names to something Bonfire Night or Halloween related. As it turned out, they set me the task of changing my name to Guy Fawkes and I rose to the challenge.”
“After changing my name I was determined to see if I was the first to change my name to Guy Fawkes and I came across an article in ‘The Times’ which claimed that ‘Future Inns will offer the safe haven of a nights stay in a double room to all bonfire related namesakes between 5 and 11 November’ at any of their chains in Cardiff, Plymouth or Bristol- which is fantastic as my fiancé and I have a one year old daughter and would love some time away together!”
Jamie Jackson, from The Legal Deed Service who processed the application, said, “We are constantly getting crazy name change applications through to us and we have a right laugh in the office when they come through. This is a unique case for us because it the first ever bonfire related application we have had through.”
Mr Fawkes added, “I told my dad earlier and he was stunned, but found it highly amusing. Changing my name with the Legal Deed Service really could not have been easier. It cost me just £10 and my Deed Poll arrived on email ready to sign on the very same day.”
