"There's two ideas that allow time-travel into the future." This according to Steve Nubie, the author of a new time-travel novel titled No Time Like The Present , a book based on 20 years of research. "Two things affect space and time. Gravity and speed. It's the gravity field that we may be able to construct in the next 100 years or so that will make it all possible."
But Nubie's not the only one talking about time-travel into the future. "According to both Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein any time-travel will be restricted to the future. That's a bit of a disappointment to some." Said Nubie. "Most of the books and movies about time-travel dwell on traveling back to change events somehow. But if you think about it, traveling forward could have even more devastating consequences. Especially when you consider that some physicists seem to believe we might actually have the technology to do it within the next 3 or 4 generations."
Nubie was philosophical as he recounted the potential consequences. "It’s a perfect escape from a troubled past or a disappointing present. It’s a place where miraculous cures and advanced technology promise a life of ease and leisure - unless of course everybody decides to go."
Numerous books have been written on the subject but the vast majority are based on travel back in time rather than forward. Nubie was clear about his approach. "I kept the idea of traveling back in time out of the story for the simple reason that it's not feasible. At least not in the near future. What I really wanted to explore was the range of consequences that our great-great-
