Data available on compete.com shows an increase in key websites related to starting a new business. SBA.gov, Entrepreneur.com, Score.org, and Business.gov have each experienced an increase in traffic over the last year. As unemployment spikes in the US to over 15 million people, adversity is forcing many job seekers to make ends meet by starting their own company.
Keyword searches often indicate important or emerging trends. A review of data available on Google insights for search reveals that searches for the keywords “business plan template” are up over 120%. Other keyword searches like “small business grant” and “score business plan” are up over 50%.
Small business owner Brian Mattocks of http://RentASmartGuy.com, reflecting on the current climate stated “I think a certain amount of healthy adversity forces people to innovate. “ His company, RentASmartGuy.com offers a way for start-up professionals to demonstrate knowledge and build a brand through online publishing.
The influx of entrepreneurs into the marketplace also makes starting a business more challenging. The general skills of sales and marketing may not be standard skills with business professionals. “The biggest challenges we see business professionals trying to go it on their own are planning and branding.” says Mattocks.
“Many professional services are difficult to sell because they have a vocabulary that most people don’t understand. It’s a reality that many people will need to face as they try to build a business.” Mattocks says. “Writing articles about what they do helps them get closer to their potential customers and makes them think critically about what they are doing.”
