Bollywood's caring divas

Freida Pinto, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra are busy lending their names to benevolent plans.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Nov 04, 2009 – Freida Pinto, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra are busy lending their names to benevolent plans.

Freida has signed up with Nanhi Kali Foundation while Ash will be Smile Train's first goodwill ambassador.

Nanhi Kali Foundation, for the uninitiated, aims to offer primary education to underprivileged girl children in India. Smile Train, on the other hand, is a leading cleft charity involved in providing free cleft surgery to poor children.

"God has given me plenty of reasons to smile and I feel it's time to spread it around. Lot of children desperately need help, but can't receive timely care since their families cannot afford this surgery or are uneducated," says Ash.

Freida, on her part, has been chosen because of her global appeal and an inspiring story behind her success. Reportedly, the foundation officials feel that Freida, with her appeal in the West, will bring in Hollywood celebs too.

The Slumdog Millionaire star will join Cherie Blair and Indra Nooyi, among many others, as Nanhi Kali's faces. Aishwarya supports Smile Train in association with her organisation, The Aishwarya Rai Foundation.

As ambassador, Ash will work in numerous ways to spread awareness and garner resources to help the worldwide movement.

The cleft organisation's officials feel Ash's universal appeal and star power will be a priceless asset.

Preity Zinta is also set to join the fight against human trafficking. The dimpled beauty, who has no new films in hand, met United Nations officials to discuss the possibility of her joining the crusade.

"Met up with them and some like-minded people and am planning to join the fight against human trafficking! Do you know that human trafficking is a 38- billion dollar industry?" Preity writes on her Twitter account.

Besides her involvement with the Indian Premiere League, Preity had made headlines in the past after bankrolling the future of 34 girls at the Mother Miracle orphanage in Rishikesh. Recently, Priyanka Chopra too came forward to support the 'Save the Children' campaign. It aims to provide education to eight million children living in conflict-affected areas.

She also supports UNICEF. "The UNICEF Shoot was very enlightening. Kids from across the country were asking questions, making comments. We're all cynical in some way or the other... But instead of looking for what's wrong... let's try and do some good!" writes Priyanka on her blog. A few weeks ago, Sonam Kapoor was made the brand ambassador of a fundraiser organised by NGO Khushii.
