More than 40 supporters rallied to hear Boone speak on the 275th birthday of his family namesake, Daniel Boone.
A retired Air Force Lt. Colonel and university teacher, Dr. Boone has taught child psychology, human behavior and abnormal psychology. He says, "I am running because this crucial board determines what our children are taught and how they are tested. The State Board of Education should be above politics. There should be only one agenda — excellence in education. We must do what is right for all the children of Texas."
Boone says, “The unfortunate thing about this is that one has to declare Democrat or Republican, but for something like education it should be non-partisan.”
Boone will run as a Democrat in the March 2010 primary, and will face at least one other opponent. The winner will face the victor of the March 2010 Republican primary.
