Nov 03, 2009 – Air Mauritius has taken the delivery of a second A330 aircraft called Nenuphar, this joins the other A330 (named Trochetia ) which was introduced in year 2007. This powerful airplane has 24 business class and 251 economy class seats. The business class has lie-flat kind of seats. This will greatly improve the company's capacity and improve its service to customers and partners even further. Nenuphar means water lily in reference to the aquatic plant of Pamplemousses Garden. Nenuphar has already made its first flight on October 30 to Mumbai, India.
Air Mauritius is the national airline of Mauritius island and operated roughly 80 flights per week. Tourism is an important part of the country's economy. Textile and apparel industry, tourism and financial services are the main sources of revenue generation. In the last few decades Mauritius has seen a substantial growth in its economy. With literacy rate of 83% and per capita income of more than 4000 US Dollars, Mauritius has been attracting foreign investment by a tremendous amount. Mauritius has good climate and excellent beaches making it a popular tourist destination. Mauritius has concentrated on developing a quality tourist industry rather than on appealing to the mass market. It is estimated that more than 600,000 tourists visit Mauritius each year. It has more than 30 km of coastline and enjoys a political and social stability. It is also a great diving destination and surrounded by many coral reefs. In fact tourism has propelled the growth of economy by a huge amount. Tourism generates a lot of jobs, both direct and indirect, to the local people. Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) also said that that they expect the tourism from India will likely increase by 10% inspite of global slowdown. It is located off the southwest coast of Africa and located in the Indian Ocean. Air Mauritius induction of Airbus A330 will likely help them to take a bigger chunk of tourism revenue.
