In a recent article by Karen Burns of US News “10 Things to Do While Your Unemployed” she mentioned you should join Toastmasters. “Do some public speaking. Join Toastmasters, get some skills, and get out there. Many clubs, associations, and classes are looking for speakers, especially free ones. Bonus: Your interview skills will improve, too.” This is so correct, but Toastmasters is not only good for job seekers it is good for anyone.
Recently several Toastmasters achieved some very special milestones and awards as members of the Selling North Idaho Toastmasters in Coeur d’Alene Idaho. They were all able to accomplish this with the skills and training that is provided through the club.
The Selling North Idaho Club as a whole received awards for Sponsoring the Center Partners Toastmasters Club and being a President Distinguished Club which means it accomplished specific goals that were focused on in two areas Educational Awards and Membership.
Individual achievements were:
James Morris and Tammy Baughman both received their Competent Leader Award and will be moving on to the Advanced Communication Series. Toastmasters, members advance in the Leadership track of the educational program by participating in club leadership activities. The Toastmasters approach is hands-on and participatory, not dry and academic; it’s a place to try your hand at leadership instead of just reading about it.
Tom Dorr, the current President of Selling North Idaho Toastmasters, was recognized for mentoring and sponsoring the Center Partners Club.
Frank Briggs, Amelia Deardorff, and Mathew Grupp all received Triple Crown Award with Amelia also receiving Outstanding Toastmaster and Mathew President of the Year.
Steve Wyttree was representing the Coeur d’Alene Toastmasters Group, but is a member of the Selling North Idaho Club, and he won the Humorist Contest at the District Contest in Walla Walla, WA in October.
So as we are heading in to the Holiday Season these members already have a great end to their year and have given other Toastmasters something to strive toward in the coming new year!
“We don't accomplish anything in this world alone... and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” Quote Sandra Day O’Connor.
