Local Attorney Adds Web Resource for Parents, Teens Facing Minor in Possession Charges in Michigan

Local attorney Mark Langschied today announced that a new web site resource has been created at www.marklangschiedlaw.com to provide information to Michigan parents and teens on what to do if faced with a Minor in Possession (MIP) charge in Michigan.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Nov 03, 2009 – Northville Michigan attorney Mark Langschied today announced that a new web site resource has been created at www.marklangschiedlaw.com to provide specific information to Michigan parents and teens on what to do if faced with a Minor in Possession (MIP) charge in Michigan.  The new MIP information resource includes information and definitions on what the law is, the possible consequences and penalties that are involved, and the possible defenses that may be considered in MIP cases in Michigan.

“Minor in Possession, also known as ‘MIP,’ is one of the most common criminal matters that minors face,” said attorney Mark Langschied.  “For parents and minors alike, it is often a very difficult situation if an underage child is charged with MIP in Michigan.”

While underage drinking is a serious problem for many reasons, there are also a broad range of legal offenses that apply to minors and alcohol – such as MIP, DUI, and Zero Tolerance (Minor Blood Alcohol Concentration) – with varying consequences that apply depending on the circumstances.

“Most parents and minors don’t realize that there are two different laws that apply to minors in possession of alcohol,” said Langschied. “The most common is purchasing, consuming, or possession of alcohol, and the other is a minor transporting and possessing alcohol in a car. One concern is the impact a criminal conviction can have on future job prospects.  The good news is that, for first offenders, charges may be dismissed if probation is successfully completed.”

The new MIP web resource provides information about the steps involved in defending an MIP case in Michigan, such as court documents, motions, and strategy considerations that may need to be dealt with by an MIP attorney.  Parents can also find details about the differences in penalties between first offenses and subsequent offenses, as well as some possible defenses that may be considered in order to achieve the best possible outcome for their underage child’s MIP case.

The new MIP web resource section is provided as a free service by Mark Langschied and can be found on the MIP page of the Langschied Law web site at www.MarkLangschiedLaw.com/MIP.htm.  Additional web resources can also be found on the site, along with specific court locations in southeast Michigan where Mark Langschied handles cases.
