Decorated Officers to Speak in North Canton

Honoring veterans from around the country has become a tradition for the North Canton City Schools. This year we are honored to have Christo Lassiter and Dr. Paul Herbert as guest speakers at our event.

PRLog (Press Release)Nov 03, 2009 – North Canton –Local veterans will be in the spotlight this Veterans Day as the North Canton City Schools celebrate their service to our country.  The program is titled “A Grateful Nation Remembers”.

The North Canton City Schools will host a recognition ceremony for all veterans on November 10, 2009 at 8:30 a.m.  This event will take place at the Hoover Hall of Performing Arts, Hoover High School, 525 7th St. NE, North Canton, Ohio.  A reception will follow at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the Library Media Center.  

Our guest speakers will be Dr. Paul Herbert and Christo Lassiter.  Herbert is the Executive Director of the Cantigny First Division Foundation (www.firstdivisionmuseum.org).  He previously served as a strategist for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D.C. and as the commander of the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division (Light) in Hawaii.  Lassiter is an award-winning professor at the University of Cincinnati.  He was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame after serving as a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps.

Students from North Canton Middle School will pay tribute to the service of local World War II veterans, while students from Hoover High School will recall the events from the war with a narrative multimedia timeline.  

This event is open to the general public; family members of veterans are strongly encouraged to attend.  Reserved parking will be available at the 7th Street entrance to Hoover High School.  The event will be televised live on NCCS Channel 11 for those who are unable to attend.
