Amman Hosts Second Stand-Up Comedy Festival This December

PR Log (Press Release) – Nov 03, 2009 – The festival which is organized by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) is produced in collaboration with the New York Arab American Comedy Festival.

The Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival will host comics from around the world, in addition to comics from the Middle East and Jordan.  

Orbit Showtime’s support of the Festival marks its constant dedication to providing the very best of the entertainment world to all its viewers in the region, to spreading fun and humor amongst Jordanians and Arabs, and to establishing means to exchange information and cultures.

The Mayor of Amman, Mr. Omar Maani, affirmed that the Festival contributes to making Amman a regional and international platform for stand-up comedy performances, in addition to bolstering the City’s cultural movement. He added that the Festival reinforces Amman’s position as an important tourist and cultural destination for Arab and foreign visitors, in addition to making the Jordanian capital an exceptional cultural center for all, in one way or another, in art, literature, and thinking.

Mr. Maani stated, “We, at the Greater Amman Municipality, have vowed, as of last year, to host an annual Comedy Festival in our beloved City. We hope that the coming edition of the Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival enjoys the same success and excellence as last year – in fact, we are certain that it would surpass last year’s Festival in every way. We believe in this artistic dimension as it paves the way for talented youth with aspirations to become stand-up comedians, allowing them to gain the necessary skills and experience to make their dream a reality.”

It is worth noting that the Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival was held for the first time last year, from December 2 until December 6, 2008, constituting the first step of its kind in the Middle East and, indeed, the Arab world. The Festival attracted almost three thousand Jordanians and Arabs, all of whom interacted with and highly appreciated the many comic performances.
