Nov. 2, 2009 - PRLog -- THE PIRATE VORTEX featuring Elizabeth Latimer, Pirate Hunter goes on sale this month at all major online bookstores and at Trafford Publishing. Books.trafford.com/09-0231.

The character of Elizabeth was inspired by a Canadian teenager whose screen name "Rebel Goddess" evoked images of a smart, independent girl who loses her adventurer mom in a diving mishap in the Caribbean where the wrecks of pirate ships abound.

A fencing champ at the University of Victoria, Elizabeth is a girl of her times. Armed with the latest palm computer, she leaps into an oceanic vortex in pursuit of Daniel, a baffling pirate— and finds herself in the past. He knows the whereabouts of her missing marine archaeologist mom, but instead of reuniting them, he leads her into an impossible mission—to help the pirate Calico Jack Rackham rescue his girlfriend Anne Bonny.

This book contrasts hip, contemporary teen culture against not-so-bright 18th century swashbucklers.

THE PIRATE VORTEX by Deborah Cannon is the first novel in a new series for young adults. The author's last book was praised by award-winning author T.J. MacGregor and historical suspense author Barbara Kyle. A previous novel of hers was a 2007 Adult Summer Reading Club pick at the Hamilton Public Library, Ontario. THE PIRATE VORTEX is available in hardcover ($30), paperback ($20) and e-book versions. ISBN 978-1-4269-0532-2 (paperback)
ISBN 978-1-4239-0533-9 (hardcover)
