The event marked the beginning of a new era for staff members who now have an expanded space from 6600 square feet in the previous location to 14,850 square feet in the new complex. The front lobby displayed a logo with the uplifting nature of a bird in flight with golden doors behind it. Guests enjoyed the ambiance of warm colors and earth-friendly amenities throughout offices and conference rooms. Corridors featured authentic images depicting “The Faces of Hope Hospice” and hallways displayed photography by Dick Martin, original founder. Staff docents narrated tours outlining the many facets of hospice care which surprised many who came for the first time. “I had no idea Hope Hospice provided so many services and that all the costs were covered, “remarked Jess Farber from Castro Valley.
Many visitors were moved when visiting the new Grief Support Center especially as they heard remarks from Linda Henry, Children and Teen’s Grief Support Specialist. On display, in the Children and Teen’s Center, were touching examples of memory boxes decorated by young participants and filled with mementos of their loved ones. Ms. Henry explained that children felt more comfortable sharing their grief stories and feelings with other young people in a safe and comfortable place.
As the Hope Hospice team welcomed civic leaders, volunteers, senior care providers, and community supporters, responses ranged from excitement to awe. Later, attendee Barbara Gideon commented, “What a meaningful event. I found the tours so interesting. The ceremonies were warm and thoughtful and I learned things I never knew about all that Hope Hospice has to offer. You are clearly a gem in the community as evidenced by the accolades bestowed upon you.”
Executive Director, Helen Meier stated, “We wanted to welcome staff, friends, and special guests to partake in this important event as part of our hospice family because we know they share in our success and recognize the meaningful and lasting impact hospice care has for patients and their loved ones.
