David Hone is one of the world´s leading experts in climate change and is an adviser to the oil giant Shell. He was recently in Sao Paulo and saw for himself how Brazilians are handling the matter. In an article which appears on the Brazil Political and Business Comment site he explains why he believes that although Brazil faces real sustainability challenges, particularly in deforestation and the expansion of hydroelectricity, it also has a tremendous opportunity to manage carbon gas emissions on a large scale.
Sustainability is also the theme of Sustainable Development Comes of Age in Brazil by Sônia Araripe who says that it is now time for companies to make sure that sustainable practices are not just seen as marketing ploys but as an integral part of their strategic planning.
You can also read Election Race: Time for Serra to Get a Move On by John Fitzpatrick who claims that Jose Serra (PSDB) could lose the big lead he holds in opinion polls over the PT´s likely presidential candidate, Dilma Rousseff, if he does not declare his candidacy soon. Here is an excerpt: “As Rousseff is the prodigy of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is currently astonishingly popular, she is in a good position to gain critical mass through her association with him. Serra is a heavyweight politician in comparison with Rousseff and has an impressive track record but he could find this is not enough unless he gets into action soon.”
