HALLOWEEN CANDY BUY-BACK PROGRAM
Local Orthodontist Offers “Tips or Treats” for Halloween and how to Avoid
Painful and Costly Damage to Orthodontic Appliances
CHESTERFIELD, MO. – In an effort to promote a safe and healthy Halloween and celebrate National Orthodontic Health Month, Demko Orthodontics will buy back the candy that young trick-or-treaters collect this year. Halloween can be the scariest time of year for many orthodontists and a nightmare for kids that wear metal braces, especially when they have to tell their mom or dad (who have invested substantial amount of money on their treatment) that they broke a wire, or bent a bracket.
“Halloween is a fun holiday for kids of all ages,” said Dr. Jacqueline A. Demko, D.D.S, M.S. of Demko Orthodontics. “But too much candy can contribute to tooth decay and for people who wear braces, eating sticky or chewy candies can harm their braces and may lengthen their orthodontic treatment.”
Every Halloween, orthodontists see a significant increase in the number of emergency office visits. Among the worst offenders are sugary, sticky candies and gum, but Halloween party favorites like bobbing for apples and pizza crust also can wreak havoc on braces. Dr. Demko is available to speak about the following topics to ensure a Happy Halloween:
Candy and treats orthodontists fear most and examples of the worst and the most-surprising offenders
Tips for staying out of the orthodontist chair in-between scheduled appointments
Invisalign which lets patients enjoy foods and activities, and makes maintaining oral health easier to maintain
Importance of good oral health and how increased candy consumption during Halloween, can be detrimental and patients need to make sure they are brushing, rinsing, and flossing as well as making sure they remove pieces of candy or treats that can get stuck in braces and between teeth, leading to tooth decay and gum disease
Dr Demko is an Elite Provider of Invisalign and offers Invisalign Teen. These types of braces allow you to eat all the hard sticky and chewy candy without any worries of breakages.
Candy may be brought to Demko Orthodontics after Halloween until November 30, between the hours of 10a.m. to 4p.m. at any of their three locations. For every pound of candy received, you will get a Demko stamp on your Demko dollar. Once the dollar is full, it is redeemable for a $10 gift card for Demko Orthodontics patients!
