LayerZero Power Systems Awarded Patent For Dynamic Phase Compensated Transfer Technology

Nov. 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Chagrin Falls, Ohio (October 28, 2009)  LayerZero Power Systems, Inc. announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted patent number 7,589,438 B2 to LayerZero Power systems, Inc.  The Letter Patent teaches the art and has been awarded United States patent protection for a source transfer invention utilized by the company's Static Transfer Switches, to automatically compensate for differences in phases between sources, eliminating downstream transformer inrush from out-of-phase transfers.  

The innovative invention operates by introducing an appropriate time delay during the transfer, the duration of the delay is a function of the phase angle between the two sources at the instant of transfer.  The inventor of the new art is  James M. Galm, Ph.D., the Vice-President and Chief Technical Officer, and Co-Founder of LayerZero Power Systems, Inc.

The abstract of the Letter Patent states:  The phase of the voltage waveform from each power source is sensed continuously, and the phase difference is known at all times, so that it can be used when the transfer is necessary. The method and apparatus monitors the voltage from the first power source, and initiates the transfer from the first power source to the second power source in response to an unacceptable condition from the first power source. The second power source is connected only after waiting for a period of time corresponding to the appropriate time delay
