Geist Half Marathon, Inc. officials announced today the launch of their Health & Wellness Grant Program designed to fund healthy initiatives for 2010. School faculty and parent volunteers in Marion, Hancock, and Hamilton counties are encouraged to download the instructions and application online at www.GeistHalf.com. Applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2009.
“Our goal is to support and inspire healthy initiatives within schools that otherwise might not happen due to lack of funding,” said Doreen Long, Geist Half Marathon volunteer board member and chairperson of the grant request committee.
Applicants must submit a one-page form outlining their proposed health and wellness program for the second half of the 2010 school year. Programs with the broadest impact, a budget less than $2,000, and that use the St.Vincent Geist Half Marathon & 5K race as their culminating event will be given priority.
Tom Britt, President of the Geist Half Marathon Inc., says the new Health & Wellness Grant Program will help further the mission of the group. “If parents and faculty want to start or expand a fitness program within their school, we don’t want money to stand in their way.”
This announcement comes just after the Geist Half Marathon announced that $34,000 has been donated to Geist-area schools, including Hamilton Southeastern, Lawrence Township, Mt. Vernon, and St. Simon the Apostle.
