CREATING NEW PRODUCTS
PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 24,2009) – It’s more efficient than a scarf… It’s better than a turtleneck… A team of fashion designers from The Fashion Lab, in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, have designed a new creation called Neck Tube Warmers, a neck and face cover that will keep you warm and cut your chances of picking up germs in crowded public places, such as public transportation or football stadiums, just in time for those outdoor games.
“I have created the Fashion Lab to give the Philadelphia fashion community a creative outlet and a place of comfort; a place where designers and retailers can think outside the box, and be creative, innovative, and bring ideas and concepts to life - ideas and creative concepts like the Neck Tube Warmer,” said Ron Wilch, Founder and Technical Director of the Fashion Lab. “Neck Tube Warmers are not only stylish, but will come in handy especially during the swine flu season,” says Wilch. The Neck Tube Warmer can also be branded for commercial retail to corporate clients with copyrighted logos.
The Fashion Lab specializes in pattern making, fashion illustration, tech pack for factories, and fabric and trim sourcing. How does it work? The Lab develops the client’ ideas from tear sheets, swatches and buttons and creates a prototype by finding the fabric, creating the pattern in the Patternmaking Department, and sources the trimmings for each concept. The piece then goes into production at factories that can handle the scale and price point for each new product. The Fashion Lab then develops the logo design, labels and hang tags, creating a complete garment package for retail sale.
“The Fashion Lab is an economic resource,” says Wilch, “where retailers can cut costs in product development “We help position people to move forward in the fashion game to be successful, helping designers step-by-step”
The Fashion Lab is a space where serious designers can hone in on their craft. The Fashion Lab features a 25 ft. cutting table and industrial tools for designers and student designers who rent the space to develop their concepts. In the lab veterans and apprentices alike can design, cut, sew, print T-shirts, learn, borrow industry books, and so much more. “It’s a modern day Kinko’s for fashion,” said Wilch.
