Meb Keflezighi Wins NYC Marathon – Meb Keflezighi captured the New York City Marathon Sunday, becoming the first American to win the New York City Marathon since 1982.
Meg Keflezighi, Born in Eritrea, the 34-year-old became a U.S. citizen in 1998 and won a silver medal in the Olympics in 2004.
Keflezighi was the second place winner in 2004 and third place winner in 2005 in the New York City Marathon. Keflezighi wore “USA” on his chest today and won in two hours, nine minutes and 15 seconds, edging out Kenya’s Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot by 41 ticks. Morocco’s Jaouad Gharib came in third. Ryan Hall won fourth.
Ethiopia’s Derartu Tulu won on the women’s side by just eight seconds over Ludmila Petrova of Russia, timing 2:28.52.
Paula Radcliffe, who won the last two NYC Marathons, finished in fourth place.
