This is a transliteration of the bani of Sukhmani Sahib in English . On the left hand side pages the Gurbani is printed in Gurmukhi (Punjabi) while on the right hand side pages is the transliteration (bani written in English as it would be spoken in Gurmukhi or Punjabi). Excellent book for those who want to say their Sikh Daily Prayers but had been unable to do so due to their lack of knowledge of Gurmukhi .The transliteration is very simple and easy to read . A clear pronunciation key is given at the start of the book which makes the pronunciation very clear. Great care has been taken to ensure the correct pronunciation of Gurbani .
“ Sukhmani sukh amrit Prabh Naam
Bhagat janaa kai man bisraam ,”
is the central theme of this Holy Baani written by the fifth Sikh Guru , Guru Arjan Dev Ji . God’s Name is the nectar that showers bliss , His Name resides in the hearts of true devotees who remain absorbed in Him . The Baani has twenty four saloks
each followed by an ashtpadee (each having eight stanzas of ten lines each ). The central idea of Sukhmani Sahib is that we can safely cross this worldly ocean by contemplating His Name in the company of a True Guru . It teaches how to attune with God , how to get true happiness , how in the process of reciting Gurbaani fears of transmigration , death , enemies and sufferings disappear and how the all pervasive vision of understanding is developed and impurities of mind are removed .
Unfortunately this great wealth of knowledge remains inaccessible to all those who are not well versed in Gurmukhi . So for them a humble effort has been made to bring forth its transliteration in English with accurate pronunciations presented in a in a very simple way to leave no room for ambiguity .
