“A safe and relatively short laparoscopic procedure can cure one of the primary health problems we have in America today,” says Dr. Spivak. He also points out that obesity causes metabolic conditions that are the cause of many serious health problems and often lead to early death. While most people understand that obesity is related to diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disease, sleep apnea, etc, not many know that obesity has been independently related to many types of cancers.
Dr. Spivak has one of the busiest weight loss surgery practices in the country and he sees patients from all over the world. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) designates his practice as “a center of excellence.”
