UPPER MARLBORO, MD November 2009 – What has a vampire, ladybug, princesses, a cartoon character, leopard and the police. No, not a movie set but a music recital. “My plan to have a fun-filled and entertaining music recital and children’s celebration was a success,” states local piano teacher Joi Jones.
Jump for Joi Mobile Music & Piano Lessons continues to make sure that “No Musician is Left Behind” in Prince George’s County Maryland and hosted what will be an Annual Music Recital & Children’s Celebration on Halloween.
With the help and support from local businesses such as Tiffany’s Bakery, Chik-Fil-A, Pizza Bolis and the beautiful music supplied by over 15 music students a monstrously good time was had by all. After the music ended students enjoyed face painting provided by Jasmine & Co. The event was held at Oxon Hill Memorial library.
Joi expressed in her recital greeting that she would like to expand her business by hiring more music teachers to be able to offer more instruments but for right now offers piano lessons. Studies show that starting out by learning the piano allows for children to be able to easily pick up any other instrument. Not only that, but learning the piano helps children with their concentration skills, can help raise test scores and increases self-esteem. The piano is the best place to start for so many reasons. I hear about the school system always looking for ways to increase the testing scores. Maybe they should try offering piano to their students. They would be surprised with the results.
Joi opened Jump for Joi Mobile Music & Piano in 2007 with only 1 student; her business quickly flourished to over 25 students and is growing everyday. Joi’s mission is to spread music throughout Prince George’s County. With the enactment of “No Child Left Behind” legislation music has been practically taken out of the schools and piano has never been taught in the public schools. Charter & privates schools have contacted me about providing piano lessons during after-care hours. My mandate is “No Musician Left Behind.”
Parents have thoroughly embraced the convenience of having piano lessons taught in their home and at their children’s schools.
“This 1st recital was a celebration of all the hard work that my students have completed since I opened the doors of Jump for Joi Mobile Music in 2007. My students have worked hard to learn how to read music, play piano with both hand and memorize their songs. I am proud of all of my student’s hard work. Each one has made significant progress from the youngest 3 years old to the oldest. This event was not your typical recital or “stuffy” event with starched shirts and frilly dresses. The only frilly dresses you saw were the princess dresses because most children wore their Halloween/Harvest costume.”
“I am thrilled that my children did there very best and entertained everyone that attended. They practiced very hard during the weeks prior to the recital and you could hear it in the way that they played. I teach with no pressure, I just a show of love, patience, overwhelming support and encouragement. That’s my recipe for success and it works!!”
