So how do you market your business online and succeed?

1) Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence and in my view is the most productive and rewarding for your business.

2) Pay per click (PPC)

An Internet advertising model used on websites, in which advertisers pay their host only when their ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system. I don't like this method as you can be outbid and end up spending a lot of money for just someone clicking on your link.

All of the above can be pretty expensive you really have to employ an expert or you could end up getting sandboxed in Google (suspended from results) quite easy, but a number of things you can do yourself.

Step 1. Choose The Right Keywords and make sure your copy has these words in the body of your front page.

Step 2. Adjust your HTML page title these should have the keywords in the title, make sure every page is  titled correctly

Step 3. H1 Tags and Keyword Density H1 tags to appear in your upper html

Step 4. Alt and descriptions for your images

Step 5 get listed in Free Business Directories

Step 6 Create a blog on Blogger.com and create some back links

Step 7. Build back links but only in your niche and don't over it

We are starting to see a number of web services that drive leads to your business and they do all the above and many more complex marketing techniques for you.

They host 1,000's of businesses and drive leads via your own page hosted on their website. You can add a free business listing to the site.

This type of business marketing can be ranked for your keywords in the search engine results higher than your own website making this a very worth wile exercise.
