POOKOO: Looks like for kids - but it isn't.
Halfway through "Pookoo", a satire by American author D.L. Shiloh, is a strange and raucous Halloween party scene. Part Halloween scene and corporate mixer, the chapter titled "The Party of Dead Souls" is where "everything smashes together."

The cover art, designed by Peter Knipschield, has "Lenny the Lobster" behind a darkened scene of Chicago. Knipschield worked on various projects, including NBA legend Michael Jordan's "For Love of the Game." But it's not a cute, lovable mascot pointing to a feel-good read.
Why?
With depression, suicide, religion, sex, alcohol abuse, emotional abuse, and death it packs a punch. Add to it joblessness, celebrity obsession, TV news, it's a sugar-free reality that many readers can't take. Yet over 1,500 readers in 15 countries can't resist. It even charted in Amazon.com's bestseller Kindle lists.
"There are themes and subjects in this work that are better for readers under 18 because of a maturity issue," D.L. Shiloh said. "I was guarded with the work with my own children. The most dangerous elements are philosophical, social and emotional. These characters are dealing with life and not in the best ways. That it's a satire and has a humorous slant makes it necessary for someone to grasp what is "good" and what isn't."
