In 1872 William Henry Jackson’s photographs of the Yellowstone region were paramount in convincing the U.S. Congress to create our country’s very first National Park.
Photography still influences important environmental decisions made today. In appreciation of and in order to encourage such photographic efforts, the Alliance for Environmental Education has put out a call to collect the world’s environmental imagery. From that response 30 photographs have been selected by Al Weber, renowned photographer and former Friends of Photography Trustee, and will be displayed at the Environmental Photography Exhibition. The show runs from November 5 th through the 27th at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th St., Golden Colorado. The reception will be Friday, November 6 th from 6 to 7 PM in conjunction with the Colorado Environmental Film Festival.
Artists tend to be unique and isolated in their creative process. But when something as important as the environment calls, they passionately come together to do their part. Symbolically, the variety of photographic images in style, vision and technique represent the diversity of the world community uniting together to address the environmental challenges facing the world today
The Environmental Photography Exhibition is part of the Colorado Environmental Film Festival which was formed by the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education to further the goals of Environmental organizations. For more information is available at ceff.net or http://www.mountainmagazine.com/
