Volkswagen has launched its most fuel efficient and lowest emissions car yet, the Volkswagen Bluemotion Golf. The Bluemotion gets 74.3 miles per gallon, city and highway combined, and emits a mere 99 g/km of carbon dioxide.
The VW Bluemotion Golf uses a standard Volkswagen Golf 1.6 liter TDI engine with a maximum torque of 184 ft lbs at 1,500 rpm. The Bluemotion goes from 0 to 62 mph in 11.3 seconds and has a maximum speed of 118 mph.
The Bluemotion's specs are also based on that of the standard Volkswagen Golf, although the S model. However, there are a few additional features for the VW Bluemotion. These features include a start/stop system, regenerative braking, hill hold, longer gear ratios, low rolling resistance tires, a multifunctioning computer showing when to change gears, and a sports suspension.
The car is also fitted with a sports styling kit in order to improve aerodynamics and distinguish it from other models. The sports styling kit is comprised of sports bumpers, side skirts, an enlarged rear roof spoiler, 15-inch Wellington alloy wheels, cherry red rear lights, chrome grille louvres, and BlueMotion badges at the front and rear ends. To even further reduce weight on the car, the VW Bluemotion comes with a tire repair kit instead of a spare tire. And as on all Volkswagen Golfs, the Bluemotion also comes with ABS with ESP, seven airbags, Climatic semi-automatic climate control, and an RCD 210 radio / MP3 compatible CD player.
The VW Bluemotion Golf will cost around $28,418 with a premium of $960 for the 5-door model. This is a little bit more than the Volkswagen Golf S model, but low fuel cost will make up for that. In fact, if you drive 10,000 miles a year, you will save $197 dollars per year simply from less fuel usage.
