She soon divorces her first husband and marries the author’s father. That union takes the family and the readers across the country from Cincinnati to Denver and Fort Wayne, Indiana to Gastonia, North Carolina then back to Cincinnati as a story of love unfolds; but the family meets a major crisis in 2005 as the author’s mother dies of pancreatic cancer.
