To ease the concern of weary travelers surrounding the fear of the H1N1 virus (swine flu), InRoomMD, North America’s largest network of travel healthcare providers, has established a 24-hour medical hotline staffed by board-certified physicians that will be available to its members. The hotline will serve three purposes:
1. Provide up-to-date medical information regarding the upcoming flu season, precautionary steps to take to avoid infection, and steps to take to avoid spreading the infection if you have it.
2. If a traveler is acutely ill, they can be seen by an InRoomMD doctor in the convenience of their hotel room.
3. If, after speaking to an InRoomMD physician, the guest's condition is considered severe enough, the traveler can be triaged to an appropriate medical facility for more extensive evaluation.
The H1N1 pandemic may present a variety of cases; some of which may be mild while others may be more difficult to handle. InRoomMD physicians will be available 24/7 to answer questions, recommend treatment, and assist guests calling into the hot line. InRoomMD members can contact the hotline at 866-909-7666.
“Advantage Travel Insurance provides extensive travel protection for our clients. The addition of InRoomMD’s H1N1 hotline to our existing services for travel to the U.S. continues our commitment to providing peace of mind wherever and whenever our clients are travelling” says Les Cassettari, CEO of Canada’s Advantage Travel, a national consortium of travel agencies.
“Many travelers are confused about swine flu symptoms. It is bad enough to deal with when you are at home, but when traveling can be unbearable. Our H1N1 Hot Line will allow our members to speak directly with a doctor and determine the best course of action” says Dr. Cary Logan, Medical Director for InRoomMD.
“H1N1 is not preventing our clients from travelling to the U.S., so it is important for them to know & feel confident that they are a quick call away from assistance at anytime, if they come down with flu symptoms while travelling” says Cassettari.
