In an effort to encourage authors and to find a host of exciting and imaginative stories, mifiction is hosting a writing competition which is open to anyone with an interest in interactive fiction and a passion for writing.
About the competition:
Aimed at writers who are enthusiastic about teen fiction, mifiction is encouraging authors over the age of 16 to submit entries from almost any genre including:
• Action
• adventure
• science fiction
• fantasy
• romance
• war stories
• sports adventures and much more!
Entrants are required to submit an interactive story of up to 3,000 words in length. Each submission must be original content, with original characters and written in English.
Entries must be based on a single chapter broken down into 10 to 15 sections with each section not exceeding 300 words.
Entries should consist of an opening section establishing the scene and viewpoint character followed by at least two choices for the reader to select from. These choices lead the reader to different sections describing the results of their choices. Subsequent sections with subsequent choices provide the different plot lines that the reader can follow leading to different outcomes.
All entries should be submitted electronically by 5:00pm (GMT) on Monday 30 November 2009. Entries can be emailed to competition@
All winners will be offered a publishing contract with mifiction with the overall winner receiving a £300.00 cash prize. Prizes for second and third place of £200.00 and £100.00 respectively will be awarded with six runners up prizes of £50.00 each. Judges decisions are final and prizes are awarded at the judges’ discretion.
Comments:
Angela Corner, professional scriptwriter for shows such as Hollyoaks and EastEnders, and Chairperson of the mifiction competition judging panel says: “We hope to encourage aspiring authors to enter the competition with the opportunity to ultimately win a publishing contact as part of our new venture.
We are looking forward to reading the competition submissions which is why we haven’t limited the subjects authors can write about. We are keen to see individual creativity and flare. This is a really exciting opportunity for established and up and coming authors as we intend to launch as many as 10 new stories in February 2010 and are hoping that our winners will go on to be part of this exciting venture.”
According to Angela, “Like any good book, interactive fiction should reveal compelling plots with unexpected twists and turns. The narrative should entice the reader to literally be ‘part of the story.”
