Oct. 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Atlanta, Georgia – (YOH) - Youth of Honor Foundation, an Atlanta-based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization with a mission to assist troubled and ‘at-risk’ youth around the world achieve greatness in life through education and life skills enrichment training, kicked off it’s BE A GIANT campaign today to an assembly of approximately 800 middle school students at Mabry Middle School (http://www.cobbk12.org/mabry/) in Marietta, Georgia in support of Red Ribbon Week.

YOH President & Founder, Mr. H. Ron Brashear, passionately addressed the youth in Mabry Middle School's auditorium letting them know that they can have a sense of empowerment and courage to fight peer pressure and say NO to negative behavior related to tobacco, drugs, alcohol and violence.  “I want the youth of today to know that each and every one of them is a GIANT and they can step above the negative influences they face in life and not only say NO to them, but they can be a positive influence to their friends and help them resist the negative behaviors as well," stated Mr. Brashear.  That’s our primary mission behind our BE A GIANT campaign.” he said.

Mr. Brashear considered it an honor to have been invited to speak to what he termed “a distinguished school with so many high achievements and accolades."  Check out Mabry Middle School’s ranking at (http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/browse_school/ga/489).  "In fact, we initially delayed our BE A GIANT launch in order to introduce the campaign to these students first before rolling this campaign out nationally and ultimately, globally.” he said.  This event was very well received by everyone in attendance.  “I think it was great for the children to hear your story and to hear about the organization Youth of Honor. I think it’s real important for them to know that their choices have long-term effects. They need to know the consequences of their choices, more importantly, that they have the power to make the good choices and to really do well and succeed.” stated Mabry PTSA member/Red Ribbon week co-chair Laine Liss.   Theresa Druckenmiller, another Mabry PTSA member/Red Ribbon week co-chair also stated, “I thought it was great. The kids seemed very favorable to everything that you were talking about. They really were engaged with the whole concept and I really think they will remember a lot of the analogies you used and the personal experiences that you shared.”

We encourage you to visit the Youth of Honor (YOH) Foundation website at http://www.youthofhonor.org/beagiant.html to become informed about how you can assist youth ‘BE A GIANT’.  We have an essay opportunity for youth to win prizes and establish themselves as official 'GIANTS' in their homes, their communities, in the classrooms, with their friends, and in the environment.  There are also community partnership opportunities for businesses or individuals to sponsor a school, youth group or organization of their choosing to make a difference in the lives of today’s youth.

The Youth of Honor Foundation was established in 2006 after continued concern of the number of youth going through the United States juvenile justice system. With over 85% of the youths who serve time being released back into society, the Youth of Honor Foundation team saw that a positive, long-term impact could be made by proactively educating these youth that they are of value and can achieve any goals they have for themselves. It is our belief that every child has potential and when focused in a positive manner, that potential can assist them and others in reaching their dreams.

The Youth of Honor Foundation will intervene in the lives of troubled youth through motivational seminars on living life the right way. We will bring in real-life stories of people who have overcome obstacles in life to succeed and now live a life that no one had ever thought they could.
