It appears the small indie film "The Confessional"
is continuing its fast and furious run across the country. After a near sold out showing in San Francisco at the Landmark Clay theater last week the film now heads to the Landmark Century Centre theater in Chicago for a showing October 29th at 9 PM. The film continues to gather more and more numbers of fans and well as a few foes as it crosses the country in this unusual strategy to gain market recognition. The film, a twisty psycho-thriller starring Peter Quartaroli and directed by first timer James Anthony Cotton, tells the story of a psychotic sculptor masquerading as a priest in a small town, twisting a disturbing web of malice for his confessors. Reactions from audiences have been favorable and test scores from theater goers confirm the film has hit a mark with a wide range of viewers. Relying on story and characters rather than flashy special effects or worn out story line plots the film plays out like a modern Hitchcock classic. The strategy to expose it to as many and varied viewers in regions across the country seems to be to test the waters for a larger and more sustained release. Industry reviews have been for the large part favorable including quotes as " a must see, a cult classic and seek it out , you won't regret it ". This week Chicago will have its say and we will see what happens next, almost like a drama in itself.
