Portland, OR- Believing art should be created for a cause, local Portland artist, humanitarian and filmmaker Laura Spitze has put her money where her mouth is by corralling over 30 of the city’s young and talented actors, musicians, and artists to make what is sure to be called the first of its kind: a philanthropic improv-comedy which directly benefits the poor. Proceeds from the film’s premiere and distribution will go to both The Nursery and ArtistMentorshipProject.org, a charity which mentors homeless and disadvantaged youth in music.
Committed to her film’s cause, Laura has also founded The Nursery (www.theportlandnursery.org)
Trusting in their “artistic instincts”, Laura gave the performers no scripts and minimal guidelines to create a tapestry of hilarious and compelling stories, each ultimately interwoven into inspiring messages of sustainability and service. The tagline of the movie is “find your reason”, and it is the driving force behind the adventures of the many characters, including the lovesick delivery boy, fledgling artist, conflicted rock star, aspiring actor, unsatisfied model, homeless vet and hungry musical teens.
“Portlandia”
“With homes we can make and food we can grow right from the ground, there is no reason for anyone to be homeless,” Laura says. What better time than during our economic crisis for a renaissance artist to ‘find their reason’?
The event is November 17th, 2009 at 4:30pm @ The Hollywood Theatre: 4122 NE Sandy Blvd Portland, OR 97212. Tickets are $10 and can be found at hollywoodtheatre.org or email info@solutionfilm.org for information.
