Some of the votes that went against the victor in the general election were because of an inability of many to cast their vote for a black man. Exit polling showed a skew in the proportion of white voters who supported John McCain versus the percentage that voted for John Kerry in 2004. Obama’s loss of most southern states and many sparsely populated states in the middle of the country displayed a schism in voting patterns. That split expressed itself later through angry outbursts from individual citizens and members of the media
