Last week I received word that one of my younger brothers was found dead homeless and mentally ill on a park bench in So Carolina.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 24, 2009 -
For emediate release: To the editor:
What a wonderful society we have created. We can name every ones faults and do not see any good in them. A mentally ill person is one of those people we read about or see in movies who if he is not medicated will grab a knife and go on a crime spree, hurt someone or hurt himself.
The media loves to pick up stories about some ones pain, fear, or disaster. Let a person who is plagued by an illness or disability do some good deed and watch that news get buried away never to be heard of.
I had a successful business and a family, my life stopped due to a mental breakdown. I was on the streets living in shelters and lived in a world filled with darkness.  My pain probably would have made a great front page story, or a movie.
I searched and found answers and managed to get going again. I have helped many get their life restarted. I now have written a book, (The Cross and the Psychiatrist). I am starting a peer mentoring  system where others can learn to help themselves and those around them to look for hope and recovery. The new group is called TREX – Meet me  at the Crossroads.
Last week I lost one of my younger brothers, he was found homeless, sleeping on a park bench in So Carolina. He suffered from mental illness. He didn’t hurt anyone so it did not make the news.   The fact is there are thousands of individuals some of them are mentally ill and others are homeless and mentally ill right in your  town.  Most people can be helped with a little caring and mentoring.  One of them might be a former friend or relative of yours. How many casualties do we need before we start looking for simple answers to help our society become a better place for those who are lonely and living in pain.
Oh I forgot one thing – if we begin to fix some of our problems we wouldn’t have NEWS and good stories for Hollywood to make movies about so we can be entertained.
