PRINCE ALBERT, SK: Yisrael Avraham is a Messianic Jew, a Jewish believer in Jesus as Messiah who continues to practice the Jewish religion. He and several other Messianic Jews are founding a new synagogue in Prince Albert, Canada that will meet on the Jewish Sabbath and will express their faith in Jesus as Messiah in a Jewish way.
The doors of Crown of Messiah Messianic Jewish Congregation will also be open to non-Jews who feel drawn to worship in the traditional Jewish way. Many Gentile Christians are very excited about joining this movement that is vividly reminiscent of the early church.
Starting on Saturday October 31, Crown of Messiah will be holding weekly services in Prince Albert's First Baptist Church, a progressive Baptist group that celebrated their first Passover Seder this last spring. First Baptist Church is pastored by Reverend Devin Seghers, who is friendly to the Jewish community and wants his congregants to learn about the Jewish roots of Christianity.
Messianic Judaism is a rapidly growing movement, but is also controversial on both Jewish and Christian sides. On the Jewish side, Messianic Judaism dosn't fit the stereotype that Jews don't believe in Jesus. On the Christian side, Messianic Jews are raising some eyebrows by continuing to practice the Jewish religion in addition to professing faith in Christ.
