The green shoots of economic recovery have yet to emerge, confirmed by the news this week that the UK economy shrank by 0.4% between July and September – making this recession the longest since records began. But demand for SolarUK’s solar hot water systems has been encouragingly buoyant.
Against a backdrop of legally-binding renewable energy targets, the government along with other agencies is looking to solar thermal and other renewable technologies as a way of meeting the future energy requirements. The UK needs to produce 30% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020 if the government’s aims are to be achieved.
At the same time, UK homeowners faced with rising gas and electricity bills are seeing investing in a solar hot water system as an increasingly cost-effective option.
SolarUK’s LaZer2 solar thermal collectors were independently tested at a leading European research centre where they outperformed those of their major competitors.
Geoff Fox, Director of SolarUK, said ”Despite the economic climate, more and more households are deciding that sustainable energy measures – particularly in the form of an advanced, efficient solar thermal system - will add value to their homes and reduce their fuel bills. There is enormous potential for solar heating solutions, and we look forward with optimism to 2010 and beyond.”
