The UK’s leading drinks distributor Tradeteam is celebrating its third industry award win of 2009 after scooping a top honour at The GreenFleet Awards.

Drinks logistics giant Tradeteam claimed the sought-after Private Sector Fleet Operator of the Year (less than 500 vehicles) prize from a short list of three.

The win comes just two months after Tradeteam won two prestigious gongs for Haulier of the Year and Best Customer Care at the Motor Transport Awards.

The GreenFleet Awards evening, which took place at London’s spectacular Guildhall and was hosted by Fifth Gear presenter and notable racing driver Tiff Needell.  The event recognises and celebrates the industry’s pioneers of environmental fleet management.

During the day Tradeteam demonstrated its green credentials in a presentation to an audience of around 150 logistics professionals which contributed to 20% of their overall submission score.

Over the past 12 months the drinks logistics specialist has worked hard to implement a series of carbon cutting practices across its extensive UK network to reduce fleet movements and improve its carbon footprint.

Initiatives include idle shut down valves fitted to engines, air deflectors fitted to the urban artic fleet, reducing top speeds, defensive driving training and improvements in monitoring fleet performance via its industry leading Transport Management System.

John Crosk, Tradeteam’s Operations Manager for London, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received this award in recognition of our continuous efforts to reduce impact on the environment.

“We’ve worked hard to reduce our fuel consumption by 5% nationally in the last year, implementing driver training and defensive driving initiatives to significantly increase our fuel efficiencies.

“The most pleasing aspect in all of this has been the enthusiasm which everyone within Tradeteam has shown for making a difference and their commitment to helping the environment.”

GreenFleet’s judging panel, made up of representatives from GreenFleet Magazine, WhatGreenCar?, Institute of Car Fleet Management and the Department for Transport, commented: “This market-leading drinks distribution business has internally developed its system for managing transport resources, which provides daily analysis of planned versus actual fuel consumption to target management interventions. Continued driver training has assisted in reducing both fuel costs and the carbon footprint.”
