MedShare seeks support for disaster relief shipments of requested medical supplies to two hospitals in the Philippines and to the Association of Voluntary Health Services in Indonesia.

Earlier this month, MedShare shipped emergency relief aid to American Samoa after it was hit by a devastating tsunami.  To continue responding to the recent natural disasters plaguing the South Pacific, MedShare needs to raise $60,000 to ship medical supplies to health care recipients in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Last month, the Philippines was struck by a tropical storm followed just days later by a devastating typhoon that produced massive flooding and landslides.  Death tolls from the two storms have exceeded 850, with many still missing.  Almost simultaneously, Indonesia was hit by two large earthquakes that have killed more than 1,000 people.

“MedShare has experience responding to disaster relief situations, like this.  We have the logistics and needed medical supplies in place, we just need the funding support to make it happen,” said A.B. Short, CEO and Co-founder of MedShare.

To respond to the emergency medical needs, MedShare is working with The Ayuda Foundation and Lion’s Club International, to supply two hospitals in the Philippines with desperately-needed medical supplies, such as surgical gloves, dressings, sutures, gauze, oxygen tubing and masks.

In sending disaster relief to Indonesia, Maersk is providing free ocean transport to ship the 40-foot container to Jakarta.  MedShare, along with the Indonesian Catholic Community of Northern California and other community groups, is attempting to raise $16,000 to sponsor the medical supply shipment to the Association of Voluntary Health Services in Indonesia.

After the tsunami hit American Samoa, MedShare was able to respond within days to the emergency relief aid requested by the Department of Public Health American Samoa.  The emergency shipment was sponsored by Chicken of the Sea.
